THE NEW SACRED GROVES

The Forest Altars are a spatial intervention creating a dialogue between reforestation initiative, community engagement and sacred, cultural space in inner-city Lagos. The wider aim of the project is to address the dissociation between urban centres and the regenerative land practices needed to confront desertification in the Sahel Region, West Africa.

The proposal has a primary programme as a reforestation research site where ecological knowledge is practised and shared between ecologists, pastoralists, agriculturalists and members of the community who are concerned with the welfare of the forest as well as tapping into the creative economy of Lagos, Nigeria.
